Meet Bruna

Hi, I’m Bruna, founder of Calm Canine Care.

My work focuses on helping reactive, fearful, and behaviourally complex dogs navigate the challenges of everyday life. Every training plan is tailored to the individual dog, their environment, and the goals of the family they live with.

Unlike many boarding environments, dogs here are never placed into large groups or daycare-style settings. Care is provided in a structured home environment with an emphasis on safety, predictability, and individual attention.

Why families choose Calm Canine Care

✓ Science-based, positive reinforcement training

✓ Specialized experience with reactive and fearful dogs

✓ One-dog-at-a-time boarding and Board & Train programs

✓ Fully insured through PROfur

✓ Small Animal First Aid & CPR certified

✓ Behaviour plans tailored to the individual dog

My goal isn’t to force dogs into compliance. It’s to help dogs and owners build the skills, routines, and understanding needed for long-term success.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. What types of dogs do you help?

I help dogs with behaviour challenges such as leash reactivity, barking or lunging at dogs or people, pulling on walks, fear, anxiety, overstimulation, difficulty settling, and tension at home.

I also work with fearful rescues, large breeds that feel hard to manage, and dogs whose behaviour has become stressful for their owners.

The goal is not to label the dog—it’s to understand what is causing the behaviour and build the right plan for that dog.

  • No. I use science-based, positive training methods focused on lasting behaviour change.

That means I do not rely on fear, intimidation, or harsh corrections. Instead, I look at why the behaviour is happening, lower stress where needed, and teach the dog clearer, more useful behaviours.

The goal is not just to stop the behaviour in the moment—it’s to create progress that lasts.

  • In many cases, yes.

These behaviours do not automatically mean a dog is aggressive or beyond help. Barking, lunging, growling, or biting can happen for different reasons such as fear, frustration, stress, poor coping skills, or learned patterns.

The first step is an assessment to understand what is driving the behaviour, identify risks, and build the safest and most effective plan for your dog.

Many serious cases can improve with the right structure and guidance.

  • That depends on your dog, the behaviour itself, and your goals.

Some issues improve quickly with a few focused sessions and changes at home. More established behaviours such as long-term reactivity, fear, or household tension usually take more time and consistency.

During the assessment, I’ll explain what I’m seeing and recommend the program length that makes the most sense for your dog. The goal is to recommend what is needed—not more than necessary.

  • Yes. All private training programs begin with an in-home assessment so I can observe your dog in the environment where the behaviour is actually happening.

Follow-up sessions can also take place in your home, outside on walks, or in real-world locations depending on your dog’s needs and the goals of the session.

This allows training to be practical, relevant, and tailored to everyday life.

  • I work with clients across Metro Vancouver, including New Westminster, Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Richmond, Surrey, and surrounding areas.

If you’re unsure whether I cover your area, feel free to reach out.

  • No. Board & Train is not the right fit for every dog or every goal.

Some dogs benefit from immersive structure, routine, and focused daily training. Others make better progress through private sessions with their owner involved from the start.

The best option depends on your dog’s behaviour, temperament, history, and what you want to achieve. That’s why I recommend starting with an assessment first.

  • Start by submitting the assessment form with details about your dog, their age, breed, behaviour challenges, home environment, and what you’d like help with. The more information you share, the better I can understand your situation.

Once reviewed, I’ll contact you with the best next steps and recommend the most suitable training plan for your dog.
